The fight for Sexual Education in Miami is back on!!! On July 20th, 2022 Miami School Board members voted 5-4 to remove age appropriate comprehensive Sexual Education curriculum for Middle and High School students in Miami Dade County. Previously, parents who objected to the education could "opt out" their students. Now, there is NO MORE Sex Ed. Not even an "opt in" option remains. 🤯 This is appalling considering the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade, Florida's new 15-Week Abortion Ban, Florida's high rates of AIDS/STDs/STIs, as well as the rate at which youth experience Sexual Abuse, dating violence, and unwanted teen pregnancy AND the racial inequities around healthcare, wage gaps, and Black maternal death rates.
But all hope is not lost! The School Board will hold a special meeting this Thursday at 12pm on this issue. Here's 2 ways you can take action: 1️⃣ Email the entire School Board with just a few clicks- MAKE YOUR SUPPORT FOR SEX ED CLEAR! Head to https://actionnetwork.org/letters/miami-sex-ed it takes less than 2 minutes and anyone can do it. 2️⃣ Attend in person and make a public comment (2 min max) in support of Sexual Education - Complete this form https://api.dadeschools.net/wmsfiles/61/pdfs/6314.pdf and EMAIL it to [email protected]NO LATER THAN NOON, WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 2022 to register to make your public comment. If you wish to attend a workshop Wednesday night to help develop your public comment please email [email protected] for an invite.
